Right of Christian Initiation

The Rite of Christian Initiation is a process for the welcoming of persons of other faiths to the Catholic Church. This process is open to both children and adults of other Christian faiths as well as non-Christian faiths. Those who are not baptized in a Christian faith, known as catechumens, will be prepared for their initiation at the Easter Vigil Mass where they will receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. The Catholic Church does recognize the Baptism of other Christian faiths, so those candidates who are already baptized Christians will be prepared for Confirmation and Eucharist. These candidates will receive the sacraments at the Easter Vigil. RCIA is also open to Catholics who have been baptized and wish to complete their sacraments of initiation. Catechumens and candidates meet each week for instruction by religious education ministers. Joining the candidates each year are companions who are members of the parish who have volunteered to join the candidates on their journey of faith. Many of the companions have found the RCIA experience to be as rewarding to themselves as well as to the candidates.
